With so many personalities threatening to thicken the stew,
it's surprising that Table, Chair and Hatstand manages to sound
so sparse and isolationist; each artist knows well the value of
silence, using long atmospheric passages to amplify the effect
of occasional bursts of sound. Mⁿller uses percussion and
electronics while Jim O'Rourke adds guitar, leaving the Swiss
amplified-objects collective to fill in the many spaces. The
most beautiful track, a 20-minute piece named "Shoe Chocolate,"
features little more than the sparse guitar pickings of
O'Rourke and occasional effects supplied by Voice Crack.
