Production duo The Black Ghosts consist of Simon Lord,
formerly of Simian, and Theo Keating of big beat culprits
The Wiseguys.
Together they've remixed the likes of Charlotte Gainsbourg,
The Teenagers, Trabant and Gossip, with the latter two
productions showing up on this mix in fact.
Once the introductory beat compressions of Boy 8-Bit's
'The Suspense Is Killing Me', Armand Van Helden (of all people)
gets some coverage, his 'Je T'aime' subjected to a Switch remix.
The end result is predictably unpleasant, but not to worry; Rustie's
'Pendulum' is up soon, and it's an undoubtedly deft, well-proportioned
production, so that's good then. Recent Alphabeat remixers
Frankmusik are present, but themselves undergo a reworking, at the
hands of The Black Ghosts themselves, the end result being
ultra-poppy electro-fodder, and highly pleasing it is too.
Alter Ego's 'F*ckingham Palace' is included, but while the track
seemed to last several hours on the Why Not? album, it's only
given a minute or two here before Gossip's 'Listen Up' (their
'other song', if you will) barges in to the tune of a Black Ghosts
makeover.
Further indie dancefloor hits get reconfigured as the disc goes on,
with Bonde Do Role's 'Marina Gasolina' and The Whip's 'Muzzle
No. 1' finding themselves on the receiving end of a spritzing up
by the compilers.
