Release Notes:
--------------
Devin Blair and Jon Cagle met through the scene in 1998. Both had a
love for local music, and both expressed interest in starting a band,
perhaps even together. Jump ahead a year, where Devin Blair meets
Patrick Bukaty, a Kansas City native at Rockhurst College. They started
playing together, and collaborated on a few songs. After auditioning
another drummer that just didnt work out, Jon played with Patrick and
Devin, and the three clicked. Shortly thereafter from the basement/rock
laboratory of Jon's abode, the three, calling themselves Bulldog Front,
started to construct fast, tight, melodic 2-3 minute ditties that were
over before the audience knew what hit 'em. In the summer of 2000, the
guys cut a five-song EP, "Fashionable Anarchist", at Dan Smith Studios
in Kansas City, Missouri. Sending their tight little package to a
prospective label in England, they were informed of how their name,
unbeknownst to them, might conjure up some undue connections to a nasty
little right wing group out of merry olde U.K., National Front, whose
mascot is a bulldog. So, with help from a local scene mainstay, they
were reborn Go Generation. In 2001, with a new name and LP,
("Upturned", released on Hooligan Empire Records), the band continued
to kick out the 2 minute tightly-structured jams like nobody's
business. The three band mates influences covered a bit of ground. Jon
the drummer had a penchant for Avail and Costello, but also appreciated
the early elegant fury of The Who. Fuel like this supplied his drumming
with thunderous chops and keen fills; we liked to call it-"focused
rage". Devin had a taste for the Mod aspects of music. Not only a big
Jam and Ocean Colour Scene fan, his heart was also in Northern Soul and
Acid Jazz, which gave his songs an intelligent buoyancy and his bass
lines an off-beat coherency. Patrick, the principle songwriter of the
group, (when he wasn't racking his brain for another riff or snide
lyrical socio-political anecdote/unrequited love lament), he listened
primarily to early Costello, Smokey Robinson, XTC, The Clash, and
worshipped at the altar of Lennon/McCartney. Unfortunately, all good
things have to end, and after two years of "JAMming" the trio called it
quits and went their separate ways in 2002. However, they re-formed for
a couple of one-off shows in the year succeeding their split, and
released another LP, "Pictures Of You" in 2003. Since this time, all
former members are active in other projects. Pat went solo, and Jon &
Devin, (after playing in several bands for a couple of years), joined
together again to play some more Mod-Punk with Seaside Riot. In 2006,
Go Generation featured a track on the Howitzer Records Compilation,
"News of the World MK. II: Songs For Scootering."
