Prolific Chicago producer, Glenn Underground, can always be found
burning the "Midnight Oil" (GDR035). The A-side starts as a regular
house track with lightly tweeked percussion and a phat bassline. And
then it's taken over by the sexiest trumpet that you've ever heard,
luring to do things on the dancefloor that you know you shouldn't.
"Disco, House, etc." is apty named for the foundation for this
scorcher is a disco break. Of course, he flanges the sample a bit,
but then, as few producers can do better than GU, he adds some own
distinct house blend into the mix courtesy of an amazing, spiralling
keyboard solo. "Pancake Jaz" is another nice experimental fusion of
jazz and house. It differntiates itself from Glenn's previous fusion
tracks by way of a superb sax solo. This track is more smooth jazz,
than house, yet still maintains that intrinsic Chicago energy.
