In his home country, where he was a rock star at the age of 17,
and guitarist with Piazzolla just two years later, heÆs hailed as
a legend. As a composer heÆs considered by many to be the natural
follow-on to Piazzolla. Toma's Gubitsch doesnÆt accept this, he
argues against all legends including his own, keeps up a running
dialogue with his personal influences but refuses any legacy
imposed by outsiders in order to devote himself to being û
himself.
After many long years of absence from the Paris scene, and
straight on the heels of his triumphant tour in Argentina where he
was praised to the skies in all the press reviews, Gubitsch makes
his comeback with his new Quintelo (his ædream-freak teamÆ, as he
likes to call them), to present his own compositions.
What is this? Post-tango? Zappa/Hendrix-influenced tango? Tango-
jazz & roll? ôJust my musicö, is his quiet but firm reply.
