   :  Spiritualized's Jason Pierce first came to recognition   :
   :  as one of the two songwriters who made up Spaceman 3,    :
   :  the group which in the late 80's perfected a way of      :
   :  repossessing the music of their heroes - Suicide, The    :
   :  Velvet underground, The MC5, Stooges and the like -      :
   :  into droning collages. In turn Spacemen 3 and early      :
   :  Spiritualized can be seen as an inspiration point for a  :
   :  number of today's like minded groups, such as The        :
   :  Warlocks and Black Rebel Motor Cycle Club.               :
   :  As Spaceman 3 segued into Spiritualized, Jason Pierce    :
   :  maintained that fondness for repetition and a refined    :
   :  homage to his influences. Spiritualized utilised         :
   :  trademark recurring musical motifs but increasingly      :
   :  adding a higher degree of original composition, a        :
   :  denser more textured and layered sound and a greater     :
   :  sensibility.                                             :

   :  This process of growth and refinement can now be         :
   :  further evinced through the two CDs that make up 'The    :
   :  Complete Works Volume 1' . Covering the years            :
   :  1990-1993, each disc includes well over an hourof music  :
   :  and covers tracks from various singles and EP's up to    :
   :  and including the October 1993 'Electric Mainline' EP,   :
   :  beginning with both sides of the very first 7" single,   :
   :  'Any Way That You Want Me/Step Into The Breeze Part 1'.  :
   :  Other rarities include 'Feel So Sad/I Want You'          :
   :  (originally a 7" on Fierce and given away during an      :
   :  early tour); '100 Bars (Flashback)' given away free      :
   :  with a coupon from the NME or via mail-order;            :
   :  'Smiles/100 Bars (Acapella)' a 7" fan-club only          :
   :  flexi-disc and 'Good Dope/Good Fun' a 7" split single    :
   :  (with Mercury Rev) available at shows during their       :
   :  joint November 1993 tour. All material is previously     :
   :  unavailable on LP and has been personally selected by    :
