│ "An excursion into drum & bass, trip-hop, trance and dub ││
│ inspired by ancient Inca music in the company of T-Power, ││
│ Fun-Da-Mental, Trans-Global Underground, Finitribe, Youth ││
│ and more." -cover ││
│ ││
│ ││
│ "INCA MUSIC ││
│ ││
│ This album is inspired by samples from Inca Quena (TUMI ││
│ 047), an album of pre-hispanic Inca music recorder by the ││
│ UK-based band, Inti Raymi. Inti Raymi take their name from ││
│ Incas' most important religious ceremony. Inti Raymi, The ││
│ Festival of the Sun, is still celebrated in Cuzco, Peru, on ││
│ 23 June each year. ││
│ ││
│ LOST CULTURE ││
│ ││
│ For hundreds of years the Incas controlled a highly ││
│ organised and complex empire which stretched 3,500 ││
│ kilometres, almost the entire lenght of the Andean mountain ││
│ chain in South America. In 1532 the Inca empire came to an ││
│ abrupt end when Pisarro, the Spanish Conquistador, marched ││
│ his army into Cuzco to destroy one of the greatest planned ││
│ societies the world had known. The invaders banned all ││
│ religious festivals and it was not until some 400 years ││
│ later that they allowed the Festival of the Sun to take ││
│ place again. The Spanish invasion also changed the ││
│ indigenous music. In particular the invaders brought guitars ││
│ with them and although the indigenous people created their ││
│ own stringed instrument, the charango, the purity of Inca ││
│ music with only pan pipes, flutes and drums was lost. ││
│ ││
│ THE QEROS EXPEDITION ││
│ ││
│ However, in 1992, Tumi's founder, Mo Fini, led an expedition ││
│ deep into the Andes to trace the last remaining blood-line ││
│ of the Inca People, the Qeros. He recorded many of the ││
│ Qeros' haunting melodies at source and these recordings ││
│ helped Inti Raymi to recreate the music of the Incas on ││
│ their album, Inca Quena. Together with recordings by ││
│ Peruvian group, Expression, (TUMI 031) music from the album ││
│ Inca Quena features on the sound track of a TV documentary ││
│ film of the expedition. ││
│ ││
│ TRIP TO THE ANDES ││
│ ││
│ Sampling from and inspired by the music of the Inca Quena, ││
│ Trip to the Andes is therefore a trip in space and time, ││
│ taking you both deep into the Andes and to the heart of Inca ││
│ civilisation before it was corrupted by Western culture." ││
