Killer instrumental hip hop variants from TrebleO, a label setup by Domu and
Shiftee, which in this instance shows off its roster with tracks by Lukid,
Daedelus, Dorian Concept and Sonar Circle (as remixed by Bass Clef). First up,
Lukid's 'Twice' sounds like Dabrye or Prefuse 73 sampling their way through some
new Numero Eccentric Soul compilation, chopping and splicing with a digital
absoluteness that still manages to accommodate a full-bodied analogue warmth.
Bass Clef takes the helm next, reconfiguring Sonar Circle's 'Cry' into a
timestretched breakstep workout with a buzzing low-end presence, while there's
some heavy, Flying Lotus-style compressed grooves on 'Thank Capital Letters' by
Dorian Concept - clearly a name to keep an eye on, however silly it sounds.
Finally, the label looks to old hand Daedelus for the final word, and the Plug
Research veteran doesn't disappoint with his dizzying plunderphonic decimations
of old exotica records. Midway through, he sounds positively maniacal making a
transition from summery choral samples and jittery drum breaks to an unexpected
acid interlude. It's all wildly inventive stuff though, and sounds entirely at
home sequenced next to the other excellent productions housed on this album.
Awesome.
