What exactly the members Fang Island were thinking when they
created Day of the great leap is something I could not tell you,
but it must have been awesome. There are so many sounds and
feelings pack into this CD, that it is beyond definition. I could
sit here and try to describe the sounds to you, try to tell you
these elaborate scenes that plaster my mind when listening to
this, but it would be too long and you probably wouldn't
understand me anyways. Like most instrumental bands, the song
isn't about the words, but the feelings you get when you listen.

Like Pelican, these guys have a sort of uplifting sound. However
itÆs a bit more upbeat with a definite Indie sound. Again it's not
something I can easily describe. I think I've gone crazy. I have
Fang Island all set up in my mind. I know what every spot looks
like just by each song. That's how dynamic the playing is. These
guys know their instruments, and they just go at it creating
worlds with a flick of a pick.

They aren't afraid to throw something new out there. With the
static almost fire like intro that goes straight into an epic
string arrangement (which is obviously a synthesizer, but it still
sounds great), to the sound of the sea and the old docks in "S.S.
fort James". Going from there to the odd yet beautiful keyboard
intro to "Tickle Mountain". It adds to the idea that these guys
are creating their own world. All this comes to a climax when the
CD reaches its last song, "The Landing". The whole song is just
guitars playing off each other throwing notes in every direction.
I'm having a hard time writing this right now, as I listen to the
CD I can't help but let my mind drift off and become one with the
music. It's simply not of this world.

There are some vocals on the CD where the entire band breaks out
in song, but they are still an instrumental band. Instrumental
bands might turn some people off, but this is my review and for
me, I simple love this album and can't get enough of it.
