at last, the eagerly anticipated debut album from domu (aka sonar
circle aka dominic stanton) has arrived....
dj'ing for around 9 years from the age of 14,the styles and venues
have been varied. the early years were mostly warehouse parties,
which then progressed into playing at legal venues such as the
sanctuary, milton keynes, at the height of the jungle/drum and
bass era. moving into producing was inevitable, so as dj'ing took
a back seat for a couple of years in '94, making music was the
priority (as well as being at school).
as the production improved, contact was made with reinforced
records, a long time respected label, and some early tunes were
released in '96/97, first as static imprints, then as sonar
circle. also around this time, work began with friends from school
in the band, "collective unconscious", with whom sometimes
collaboration on sonar/domu projects still happen now. this new
perspective opened up another world from the familiar one of
hip-hop and drum and bass - the spectrum of jazz-Funk and fusion
became relevant. dj work now began to crop up from the recognition
of production with reinforced, now with a list of 12" releases,
remixes and compilation tunes. domu was created from the ashes of
the experimentation that can be heard on "radius", the debut lp
from sonar circle on reinforced records (1999), which could now
involve all these elements far more easily than is possible within
the restrictions of the drum and bass mainframe.
the first domu 12" was released on 2000 black in the summer of
99, and has been followed with releases on archive and skindeep
records. this is modern day fusion, an ideal that spreads from
production work to dj'ing, so that all influences may be
represented within the spectrum of good music.
watch out for domu under other aliases including kudu, with seiji &
mark de clive lowe on bitasweet records. realside on cookin'
records, rima alongside volcov (archive). also forthcoming is domu's
remix of scuba's 'give it all you got'. dj'ing throughout europe
for 2000 black recordings & archive records alongside guest residency
@ london's finest broken beat club-night the co-op hosted by dego,
i.g.culture, phil asher & demus (2 banks of 4).
"this album is for all those who are not bothered by what others
think when they are listening to the music they want to. music is not
a fashion item and it does not reflect your class or intelligence.
never stop searching...." --domu
