About The Anthem Sound...
This has been a band of blessed compromise from the start. In the
basement of NYCÆs Knitting Factory, we found each other. (Three
plus two.)
First came the energy, the quiet eruption. Each moody sΘance held
in the tiny Brooklyn warehouse we call a ôrehearsal spaceö giving
way to a spastic reaction. (Diverging voices dance and duel,
rising and intertwining above the city din--the murk of midtown
Manhattan.)
Then came the bond. Brothers from a past life, realizing there
were others who made such jokes. Others who read such books. And
others who, while hesitant to admit it, admire Neil Diamond. (Like
a dirty marriage duking it out, finding its way to the bedroom
each night. A deep sigh. A punctual reply. And in the morning
everything is right.)
Finally, the sound: Elements of angular post-hardcore and melodic
arena rock. Heralding in the new era of 90s-inspired indie, we
are. (A juxtaposition of extremes: aggression and frailty, anguish
and peace. Antipodal lead vocalists woven without seams.)
Yet for all the pomp and circumstance, letÆs come away with it:
WeÆre just the dudes next door. We donÆt have swoopy haircuts. Our
jeans arenÆt very tight. We donÆt own New York, or the room weÆre
playing tonight. We donÆt own our image, our ômerch,ö or this bio.
But this much we know: the sound belongs to us.
