After wowing radio stations including Radio One and 6Music
with her gothic cover of Umbrella, Mechanical Bride û aka
22-year old Lauren Doss û returns with the Black Skeleton EP,
three songs of quite exquisite spookiness.
As might be expected of an artist who shares her name with a
work of dark science fiction, the EP is no walk in the park,
coming across as more of a creep through the darkened forest.
Violins swoop eerily, bells tinkle on the nerves and even a
harmonium sounds pretty creepy. Key though, is DossÆs lovely
voice, which floats over the minimal backing like a jazz
ghost.
ItÆs not an easy release by any means. But given time, care
and attention Black Skeleton Sea locks into the brain like a
virulent disease
