southern groove is kya scalawag.
his interest and passion for dance music begins at the start of
the 90's when he produced some tracks with a simple tracker in an
old commodore amiga, inspired by the big events promoted by kaos
records @ kadoc disco in algarve.
he bought his first pair of turntables and some records in 96 and
at the end of the same year he meets the owners of a new
portuguese label and started co-producing a track for the label's
first release.
this is his first own record which is followed one year later by
his second (lupeca005).
both received great reviews, promoting the label and his career as
a dj, mixing at the bigest clubs and events.
production slowed down and from 2000 to 2002 he was the co-owner
and one of the dj's of a small club in faro, the algarve's
capital.
the club (prior) was a way of promotion to electronic music in the
city and region, releasing some small events with some respected
portuguese dj's.
he restarted his southern groove project and refreshed some tracks
he had started, in 2006, with kya from w.u.m.m as new member.
kya comes from the universe of post-production and audio
broadcasting.
as an underground sound lover, he starts mixing house music stuff
and makes the natural jump to composition. initially inspired by
the disco-funk vibe, he drives his way naturally into deep-house,
where he has found a mean of expression thiner and more subtle
corresponding to its personality.
