'The Only One' is to some extent business as usual for The Cure, nailing down an
emotionally charged, widescreen indie sound they seem to have been honing for
years and years. By no means does this mark anything in the way of a departure
for the band, but they've probably got more right to sound like... well, The
Cure, than anyone else does, so good luck to them. Collectors take note: this 7"
is the first in a themed series of singles to be released on the 13th of every
month up until August. Yes, the number 13 is the theme of this current batch of
material (their forthcoming album will be their 13th, see). Didn't they have a
single called 'The 13th' about twelve years ago too? Whatever, this single comes
with exclusive non-album B-side 'NY Trip'.
