Pairing 'Falling Down' from Big Time with 'Yesterday Is Here' culled from
Frank's Wild Years, Scarlett Johansson paves the way for her album of Tom Waits
covers by taking songs from his mid-to-late eighties period. And she's brought
some pals. On 'Falling Down' you might recognise the distinctive tones of David
Bowie giving old Scar-Jo a run for her money, and really, as soon as he shows up
in the mix your attention instantly shifts to him. That said, Scarlett's got a
cracking set of pipes (geez, it's like Sid James just took over typing), and
she's keen to emulate some of the characterful, expressive range of Waits' own
delivery. David Sitek as producer does bury the vocal a bit in his expansive
mix, but that's all part of his charm...
