██▌▄▀█ a perfect moment of hands-in-the-air, ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ chemical-rushing, spine-chilling perfection when the ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ DJ dropped that tune - the anthem of the time. One ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ of those massive anthems was called "Hurt You So" ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ and it's a track which will forever encapsulate ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ those times thanks to its rough breaks, huge ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ breakdown and euphoric hookline. The producer behind ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ the track? Jonny L. ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ Music has always been in Jonny's veins. At age ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ fourteen he could be found busking at London's ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ Covent Garden every weekend. Unfortunately, a car ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ accident left him with numbed fingers in his left ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ hand and forced him into the engineering side of ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ things. After saving enough money for synths, he ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ enrolled in a jazz course at Kingston College which ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ led to work as a studio engineer for Peter Pritchard ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ (now managing director and producer for Italy's ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ Media Records in the UK). In this position Jonny ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ found himself giving away loads of musical ideas to ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ people actually recording and eventually he got ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ involved in some remixes himself. In 1992 Jonny made ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ his first tune, "Hurt You So", a bone fide raving ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ classic which went on to become a hardcore anthem. ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ Then amidst jungle's explosion in 1995, musically ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ evolving in the same direction as many of his ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ old-skool peers, Jonny took his thundering ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ breakbeats into the realm of the new people's choice ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ - drum and bass. "To me jungle is sophisticated ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ hardcore," says Jonny. "At the time it was the ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ freshest thing out people were trying things, ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ sampling anything and everything, just for the sake ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ of it. From there it developed and an actual sound ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ came out of it. Jungle. They kept the beats except ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ they were a lot more carefully produced." ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ Before long Jonny was feverishly making his own ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ music combining his love of the beats of hip-hop and ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ a burgeoning acid house scene. His early output ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ included "I'm Leaving", "Wa-Oh" and "This Time" a ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ collaboration with Roni Size. In December 1996 the ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ previously released 10 inch promos were brought ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ together for a full release, the 2 Of Us EP. Seven ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ months later, "Piper" started doing the rounds and ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ it quickly rocked the underground. Each week it ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ became a favorite at Metalheadz where its rolling ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ triplets and aching bass were repeatedly unleashed ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ on a startled crowd. Piper established itself as one ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ of the drum'n'bass tunes of `97. If the brilliance ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ of "Piper" isn't enough, Jonny's album Sawtooth ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ brings together a series of moods, colours and ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ styles exploring a plethora of influences from ░██▌▄▀
