██ It took almost a decade of hard work to get where The Chant is
██ today, but in the end it all paid off. Debut album ôGhostlinesö, 54
██ minutes of melancholic music full of beautiful melodies and
██ harmonies, is finally released by Shadow World Records !
██
██ ôWe think that making music and playing it is like any other form
██ of art. If you could express yourself some other way, it would be
██ unnecessary to make music at all. The same applies to poetry,
██ painting, etc. The Chant is a group of six individuals who share
██ the same way of thinking about music. We all have our own
██ favourites and influences but together we make The ChantÆs sound
██ what it is. If a certain song needs a twist of rock or even pop
██ elements into it in order to work, weÆre not afraid to use them.ö
██
██ à And Ghostlines has it all. Powerful chords and bursting riffs
██ combined with comforting melodies and soothing soundscapes; a
██ combination of metal and rock.
██
██ The current line-up was formed in 1999, when Jussi HΣmΣlΣinen, Mari
██ JΣmbΣck and Ilpo Paasela were joined by Kimmo Tukiainen from
██ Diablerie . At the same time Markus Forsstr÷m and Roope SivΘn
██ joined the band. One could say they now, after nearly ten years,
██ know each other thoroughly.
██
██ Before signing the contract The Chant recorded four demos. The
██ first two helped shaping the bandÆs sound but the latter two gained
██ a lot of positive feedback. Sighs (2005) was named Demo of the
██ Month in Inferno (the largest metal magazine in the Nordic
██ Countries) and Imperiumi.net (the leading Finnish metal portal).
██ After Sighs it all got slightly bigger. With Breakdown (2006) the
██ band won Radio YleXÆs demo contest, and was granted nationwide
██ airplay. Even before its release, Ghostlines was already noticed
██ throughout Finland, due to the single Ode to the End which is
██ currently on the main playlists of the most significant radio
██ stations.
██
██ Ghostlines was executed with an impressive list of hardboiled
██ professionals during three months of meticulous work. It was
██ produced by the Moonsorrow vocalist-bassist Ville Sorvali, whose
██ latest works include the chartbusting albums of Profane Omen and
██ Dauntless. Mikko Herranen of Rust and Misery Inc. was in charge of
██ mixing and Chartmakers' Svante ForsbΣck (Lordi, Sonata Arctica,
██ Apocalyptica) took care of the mastering. The cover booklet was
██ shot by Ville Juurikkala (Nightwish, HIM, Amorphis), who was
██ recently named the Best Rock Photographer by the immensely popular
██ City magazine.
