│ Goldsmith's most recent Oscar-nominated score for director Paul │
│ Verhoven's erotic thriller has become a staple of movie previews with │
│ its insinuating, atmospheric title music and hammering, │
│ ostinato-driven chase cues. Goldsmith achieves some evocative "sex │
│ music" with an undulating string figure and a minor mode woodwind │
│ melody that functions as a moody siren song beckoning Michael │
│ Douglas' detective character to his ruin; his scoring of the movie's │
│ graphic sex scenes employs a moaning wind instrument effect similar │
│ to his use of the medieval serpent in Alien. The pulsating car chase │
│ cues "Night Life" and "Roxy Loses" are vintage Goldsmith action │
│ pieces that the composer honed to perfection here and in Verhoven's │
│ earlier Total Recall. The brooding low-key piano theme that emerges │
│ out of the center of the score sometimes recalls John Barry's work on │
│ Body Heat, but Goldsmith carves out his own territory here for a │
│ consistently involving album. │

│ Yeah, we did it. One year ago, at September, 6th, we released our │
│ first album "The New, The Classic & The Unexplored Vol. 1" under the │
│ UBE label. We started as a small group of friends who knew each other │
│ from various german MP3 channels on IRCNet, and from this time on UBE │
│ became bigger and bigger. At January 99 we moved to EFNet, cause we │
│ realized, that here are much more possibilities for us. │
│ Now, after a year of both trouble and fun, we can look back at many │
│ quality releases, and we are proud of our work. Now it's time to thank │
│ everybody who helped us to grow that big. Fat props fly out to all │
│ siteops, friends, members, ex-members, all other mp3 groups and last │
│ but not least you, the guys who leech our stuff. │
│ Expect more of UBE in the next year, we have a strong memberbase to │
│ rock your house with cool music. │
│ And don't forget : It's quality that counts, not quantity. This was our │
│ motto from the beginning, and it'll never change. │
│ │
