BACK IN STOCK. Originally released in 1998, this special
album from mysterious Northern operatives Gescom was
notable for it being the first ever minidisc only
release. Yep, it's even noted by Sony themselves (hah)
who are quoted on the back of the new digipak. It's a
shame really that this has finally come out as cd because
it suddenly defeats the point, now it isn't a minidisc
only release, so it may have started as the first ever
minidisc only album and now it's not... because it's on
cd as well. Anyway, the idea was that you play it on
random to create your own tracks out of the seemingly
random bleeps, squelches, stutters and drones included
amongst the album's 87 tracks. Still, what you could do
is rip all the tracks to your hard-drive and play them
randomly gapless on Winamp? That just might work, then
you can create some Gescom magic in the confines of your
living room - fantastiche! Released in a lurvely
Touch-style digipak (OR is a Touch sublabel remember...)
this is a very interesting historical item, regardless of
its initial purposes. Autechre fans take note...
