Release Notes:

Debut single on Warp from antipodean instrumental
trio, Pivot. 'In The Blood' is an amalgam of
confident electronic melodies and solid, primal
rhythms. Pivot have been amassing a sizable fan
base and exciting crowds with their live
performances next to the likes of Battles, Four Tet
and Deerhoof.

Both remix choices have successfully harnessed the
essence and dynamism of this band, and provided two
very exciting results. Firstly is a version from
Rustie, the recently crowned prince of the
eccentric hip-hop instrumental. He extracts the
hook and adds it to a slow, stumbling rhythm and a
screwed up psychedelic sound. Secondly, Warp's very
own Clark turns 'Sweet Memory' into a kaleidoscopic
mix of colourful electronics and psychedelic post-
rock, with a huge sickly synth melody, giving the
whole thing a dose of darkness

With two chunks of experimental instrumental rock,
Australia's Pivot fit into Warp's new aesthetic
perfectly - continuing the trend ignited by the
mighty Battles.

There's a Trans Am feel to the title track, all
warbling synths and chugging math-y guitars in the
backdrop. Splattered with programmed beats that
ricochet all over the place, the track builds
fairly rapidly into a place where space-rock meets
the kind of freeform drum-stuff Kieran Hebden loves
to band around. 'Didn't I Furious' is more punk-
inspired; jagged guitar chords wrestle with dirty,
distorted burbling synths for the limelight, barely
making way for the tacky science-fiction sound fx
and live drums.

Two mixes occupy the other side of the EP, courtesy
of Rustie and label mate Clark. Rustie gets a bit
dubsteppy on his take of 'In The Blood', throwing
up grime-esque clash beats and wirey, squelchy
synths. The second is a reworking of new song
'Sweet Memory', where Clark injects those trademark
acidic-synths and clap-happy drums into the mix,
melding them with choppy acoustic loops, xylophones
and tapping percussion. It is by large a huge
contrast from the two deafening and ferocious Pivot
songs.

This band must be on fire when performing on stage
and talk about making a huge impression on your
introduction. A promising listen indeed.
