Bitter Funeral Beer Band was a unique 12-member ensemble,
active in the 1980s, combining African funeral music,
improvisational jazz and Nordic influences. Don Cherry (pocket
trumpet) and K.Sridhar (sarod) joined them for this concert,
recorded in Frankfurt in 1982. Bitter Funeral Beer Band was
led by Bengt Berger (African xylophone & percussion) who had
studied for several years in Ghana - and based his
compositions for the band on the funeral music of the Lo-
Birifor people of northern Ghana.
