Produced by John Porter and set up as a three piece power trio
this is one big 'welcome back Mr Trout, now please kick my
ass’. Opening with 'Welcome To The Human Race’ this is Walter
Trout doing the thing he does better than anyone else on the
planet – huge dynamics, power riffs and those vocals straining
the throat and every sinew. His soloing is electrifying and he
sounds as though he is back doing what he wants and really
enjoying himself. 'The Next Big Thing’ sounds out a warning to
all those wannabe guitar-slingers who think that travelling
from town to town with a reputation is the easy life – Trout
has mentored his fair share and he should know better than
most.


The whole album seems to be about the travails of a man who
has spent all his life on the outside of the mainstream; he
has been broken and beaten down but now is emerging stronger
and with all his heart and power reinforced – some major
turning point in his life and we are benefitting from it
big-style. 'The Love Song Of J. Alfred Bluesrock’ is
quintessential Trout with a big organ behind him and his
innate sense of timing right on the mark, 'Child Of Another
Day’ continues his theme of the man on the edge of society and
turning away, into himself, he goes acoustic for 'Turn Your
Eyes To Heaven’ and the title song, 'The Outsider’, is a Blues
rocker so classic and so memorable that only Walter Trout
could be behind it. Absolutely album of the year so far.
