After having been the first ones to bring you the
awesome anthems Hearts On Fire by Cut Copy and
Homecoming by The Teenagers, we're proud to now
bring you this:
frankmusik's pop music is beamed in from the neon
lights and hoover - bikes of a dystopian pacific
rim metropolis.
'blade runner pop' is how he describes it and with
it's rushing synthetic synths and light speed
vocals, you can imagine frankmusik aka 22 year old
vincent frank performing to replicants in a dive
bar in the shadow of the 700-storey tyrell corp
complex.
speeding along at 145 bpm both tracks are under the
influence of frankmusik's misspent youth in the
suburbs of south london listening to jungle and
drum and bass.
Or... Producer, university drop-out, graphic
designer and ex-beatboxer Vincent Frank has his
fingers in all the pies.
If you've ever wondered what Mika would sound like
if he ingested a cocktail of class A's before
whipping out a synth and a host of sound effects
that seem to have been ported directly from Amiga
600 games... you're a weirdo.
But on the positive side, your search has ended
with Frankmusik.
Heavily lending from 80s new wave and 90s
electronica, 'In Step' is a track that grows with
every listen.
Razor-sharp production pushes along the crisp
vocals and bittersweet chorus, but it's the
keyboard-mashing and minimal beat that truly
propels the 22-year-old's creation, lending it the
aural properties of Stardust's 1998 hit 'The Music
Sounds Better with You'.
B-side 'Done Done' grates with a chorus that
consists of the final word of each line being
looped to death, but takes nothing away from the
electro-pop fun of 'In Step', a juicy arrangement
with enough sensibility to refrain from the
overkill.
