Miami's Otto Von Schirach manages to sound as
if he's both satirising breakcore and celebrating it
on this latest album.
Just as a couple of years back he grossed us all
out with his double 7" of... bathroom noises, Pukology,
Oozing Bass Spasms finds the expert producer tearing
his way through some fairly unpleasant sampling
material, themed around pornography and exploitation
samples.
There are some thrilling bits of production here, from
amen break-decimating 'Magnetic Rave Headache' to
the restless unpleasantness of 'DJ Hepititis Tofuburger'
(is that Liza Minelli I can hear in there?).

At its most dreary, you get the perversely slowed down
'Dance Like A Hoe', featuring lyrics that are every bit as
tiresomely misogynistic as its title would suggest.

When this sort of thing shows up you can't help but feel
that ol' Otto is just revelling in the dumb electro-booty
tropes he at first appeared to be sending up.
He gets it right again on the ridiculously vicious 'Spine
Serpents On Sperm Island' though, dishing out ridiculous
sounding horror movie organs and heavy rock played out
on pneumatic drills. Keeping the standards up 'Zombie
Halloween' is like a weird music hall ditty about spooky
goings on, which like so many things this week, seems
preoccupied with Tom Waits.

Finally, you know the album has just about run its course
by the time 'Satanic Unicorn Orgy' rears its head, throwing
Right Said Fred about the place. Oh lordy.
