This Quartet was formed by Christoph Irniger 2005 and took
quite a glimpse at the contemporary New York Jazzscene.
Focussed on the originals by the young Bandleader this group
has been playing regularly and doing rehearsals since 2006.
With Chris Wiesendanger on Piano and Patrice Moret on
doublebass Irniger could engage two of Switzerlands
first-called musicians. He decided to complete this promising
rhythm section with the up-coming Drummer and former fellow
student Claudio Strueby.
äChat Noirô is the debut album of this Quartet and relies on a
cat from IrnigerÆs childhood and symbolises some nice memories
from those days.
As the album title is being meant as a symbol, all the tunes
appearing on the record are meant to be symbols. These 8 tunes
are telling stories from passion, dreams, melancholy and the
yen to see distant places but meanwhile they reveal optimism
and can be understood very self-mockingly.
The music captured on this album has a large range of
different moods and colours.
Intimate but even though high-energetic. Those contemporary
pieces are composed very clever and they may show how Irniger
found a unique language in writing music besides studying Jazz
and its tradition accurately.
