I suspect there are those who may not find "The Art of
Excellence" to their liking. It's not your archtypical Tony
Bennett disc by any means but it may be just that very reason
that I find this to be one of my favorites. And, with my
admiration for Mr. Bennett well known, that in itself is truly
saying something!
For starters...this cd was recorded before Tony Bennett began
his startling renewal back into the mainstream of American
popular music with the release of "Perfectly Frank". It was
also at this point that his son Danny began managing Mr.
Bennett's career, a move that would eventually end up being
extremely rewarding for father and son!
With that in mind Tony and entourage went flying off to London
to begin work on this cd. Obvioulsy using the talents of Ettore
Sttra and conductor Jorge Calandrelli was a stroke of genius.
The cd is remarkably even handed and the song selection is not
only "creative" but to some degree risky as well. Mr. Bennett
has never exactly been known for his interpretations of
"modern" day classics such as "How Do You Keep The Music
Playing?" or "Why Do Fools Fall In Love" but he takes these
songs and truly makes them his own. The same with "So Many
Stars" and "When Love Was All We Had". I did want to add a song
called "Forget The Woman" which,despite all the songs of love
and romance that fill this cd, is a true 'jolt' of reality. A
tune that strips away all the romanticism and explains to the
heartbroken about knowing when to simply move on! Overall, each
song is given a certain "intimacy" that I simply revel in!
Adding to the fact that the orchestration is very subtle and
never overbearing or intrusive! Arrangements such as these are
so difficult to find anymore....less is more indeed! Plus, of
course, the wonderful duet with Ray Charles, "Everybody Has The
Blues", a true "classic"... and fun to boot!
Again, as I've previoulsy stated, this disc may not appeal to
everyone who considers themselves to be a fan of Tony's. The
disc has a much more modern feel to it than the cd's he's
released in the past few years but please don't let that deter
you! Every song on here is very well crafted and, as always,
Tony is in grand voice. Plus, taken as a whole the disc is very
romantic and can be enjoyed singularly or perhaps "shuffled"
with other cd's as well. I know I've put this on with Maureen
McGovern's "The Music Never Ends" and "Ballads" by John
Coltrane and treated myself to a wonderful, relaxing evening.
And for that I am extremely grateful to Tony Bennett!

greeting,people yelling, people threatening, people helping, people
watching, we're still enjoying our aime: Let ppl listen to what they
are gonna buy b4 they pay a single penny.

last few years, maybe it's because of them that (against all odds) we
are still releasing and doing well, those know who they are, and we'll
thank forever.
We remind our beloved public, we're against all kind of distrubution,
don't search our rips neither in your preferred XDcc channel, nor in
your local 127.0.0.1 p2p program, We do not distribute ! But it's not
nice to buy when you do not know what you're buying.
As a matter of fact, DGN is a private group, and do not need rippers,
fast or slow shells, traders, t1+ sites, couriers, prewhores, and hw
suppliers, we need only a nice chalet in Switzerland/Canada or a Villa
in the Caribbean sea where to listen to some chillout music.
