Release Notes:

The idea for this, their fourth album, came about when Rejean Ricard and his
bandmate/songwriting partner Jacques Dubois were out for an early morning bike
ride four years ago. The concept was initially about a day in the life of a
nuclear family, each member of which would have three songs devoted to him or
her. Over the years, the concept evolved into character sketches of different
people going through different periods of their life, from dealing with gossip
and striving to keep up with the neighbours to holding their own at the
playground and dealing with a midlife crisis. While past releases have been
chock full of alterna-hip catchy guitar-rock pop gems evoking the likes of The
Byrds and Bowie û their latest continues to please and expand the palette -
containing snippets of pop-orientated tracks that jangle and shine like the
Hollies or Squeeze and at the same time displays catchy linear rockers that
would make Green Day or even Oasis smile û and the unpredictable chord changes
create an artsy form of rock rarely heard these days. "Over 40 years after the
Beatles grabbed North America's musical consciousness by the lapels and gave it
a friendly shake, their brand of guitar-based pop is still influencing bands
here, there, and everywhere, and the third album from the Butterflies shows that
plenty of good things can still be built from the Fab Four's model. They aren't
devoted to the Beatles at the exclusion of all else - 'Telescope' shows flashes
of both the Hollies and the Kinks, and 'If It's All Too Much' suggests someone
in this band listened to a lot of Who records. But the clean melodic lines and
energetic guitar figures of the Beatles circa 63-65 clearly loom large in their
pantheon of influences, and they certainly do right by their role models.
Ricard's guitar work is sharp and engaging, and he's a first-class songwriter to
boot, sounding equally clever as a lyricist and tunesmith, and Dubois and Eric
Van Buren are an excellent rhythm section, giving the songs plenty of snap and
crackle while pushing the tunes forward with just the right degree of force.
Though it isn't difficult to suss out this group's influences, they aren't
overwhelmed by them, or living in a bygone era; these are simply band members
who understand the virtues of a smart, well-crafted pop tune played with fire
and skill, and they have the talent to apply those lessons to their own work.
Their latest is superb pop/rock in the classic style that anyone who still
believes in the curative power of the electric guitar will want to hear!" - All
