Fans of the DEBOIZ will eat their hearts out to this quick-paced
comp. With only a few tracks breaking the two minute mark each artist
has a small window to strut their stuff, and if it isn't to your
taste there isn't time to hit skip before it quits for you.
What's incredible about this comp is that all the tracks lead into
each other. Some of the transitions are just brilliant and if you
weren't watching the track list you wouldn't even realize it was the
next song. Actually, there are two sets of continual action: set 1 is
tracks 1-17, set 2 is 18-38.
Short-song comps lend themselves particularly well to
experimentation. While the disc starts out a bit hardcore that sound
dies off quickly enough. My ears perked up for Blinn40x's track which
creatively combines some warm synth sounds with a set of typewriter
samples (which could have easily come off as beyond cheesy). I stayed
glued as it transitioned into Kernel32's woodblock-groovin,
porn-sample track. Really there are too many good tracks to mention
and full thing demands to be carefully listened to all the way
through at least once.
Besides there being quite a few interesting experiments and so many
transitions, the disc is surprisingly easy to listen to. Whatever
genre interests you there is bound to be something here to catch your
ear, and you'll probably find something new you like.
There are no track names listed, only artist names. All of these
artists are involved in the file sharing program soulseek
(www.slsk.org / www.soulseekrecords.com). Talk to them and hear new
tracks there. Also, don't hesitate to buy this disc. The art alone
makes it worth having on your shelf.
