Release Notes:
Local piano-driven rock outfit Parachute Musical kicked off 2007 by making a
brave migration to Nashville from its hometown of Washington, D.C. Now closing
in on a full year in town, it appears the operation has been a smooth success.
The band quickly gained notice among like-minded peers in the rock scene and
praise from local press with a brainy brand of piano-pop that's classically
complex but warm and inviting. And judging from videos documenting the ambitious
construction of a new album due in 2008 (featuring the band conducting a
mini-orchestra through some gorgeous passages) Parachute Musical seems set to
make the little triumphs of 2007 look like a mere warm-up session.
-Dave Paulson, All The Rage
Nashville, TN 12/6/07
The band is becoming one of Nashville's best kept secrets.
-Sean Phipps, Chattanooga Times Free Press, 07/20/2007
If there's another indie-rock band with a conducting-capable member among its
ranks, we'd love to meet them. Bananas.
- Nicole Keiper, The Tennessean, 11/12/07
Parachute Musical is among the rare pop bands where the piano defines and drives
the direction, rather than the guitar. But Foster and Gilbert have a chemistry
that's featured in fluid, challenging and structurally unusual tunes. Their
music is personal and intense, a reflection of such Foster favorites as Jeff
Buckley and Rufus Wainwright, and his desire to pen tunes that recall events
from his life.
- Cover Story, Nashville City Paper, 09/13/2007
Parachute Musical seems set to make the little triumphs of 2007 look like a mere
warm-up session.
- Dave Paulson, All The Rage, 12/6/07
Foster packs enough musical language into indie-engineer Derek Garten's crisp
production to make even punchy ragtime throwbacks seem cool.
- Critic Picks, The Nashville Scene, 08/09/2007
Their [PM] style is somewhat along the lines of Ben Folds Five, but with more of
a haunting quality and better vocals. Parachute Musical has good atmosphere, and
a cool mixture of sounds. Tori Amos-like piano riffs and rock-esque electricity
keep their self-titled record interesting but not overpowering.
