Release Notes:
Ubiquitous Brazillians CSS have come a long way
since their Sub Pop beginnings - although not so
much musically: having signed to a major there was
clearly little need to commercialise or modify the
existing formula, which in truth was already a
winning one. 'Left Behind' is the first single to
be lifted from the band's forthcoming sophomore LP,
and boasts a slightly glossier production than
previous efforts, possibly thanks to the mixing
talents of big-shot engineer Spike Stent, who
regularly works his magic for Bjork and Madonna.
One thing to be said of 'Left Behind' is that it's
not quite as daft sounding as some of the band's
earlier singles, which may not be an entirely good
thing, but there's no doubting the pop firepower on
show here. The B-side on this CD format is a shot-
for-shot remake of The Breeders' 'Cannonball',
which is fairly distracting, but ultimately sounds
like a bunch of 6th formers ineptly bashing their
way through the song in a school music room.
