Now this is a real treat! Thanks to the cooperation with Bruce Mee of Now & Then
Records, NL Distribution has made a limited quantity of Voodoo X's "The
Awakening" once again available for all you melodic rockers who missed out on
this excellent release the first time around (or whose vinyl copy is close to
falling apart). The latter will no doubt have stopped reading by now to purchase
this platter immediately but for the few others my message is to read on...
Jean Beauvoir was Wendy O. Williams's (R.I.P.) partner in musical crimes in the
Plasmatics. He is mainly known for his solo efforts and to a lesser extent for
fronting the most of the time rather splendid Crown Of Thorns.
But prior to COT he started this excellent project with Tommy Lafferty with whom
he had worked on a solo project post Plasmatics. The track that most of you will
no doubt know is the superb 'The Awakening' which was featured on the "Shocker"
movie soundtrack in the 80's. Another one worth mentioning is the song
co-written by Paul Stanley 'A Lover Like You' but I could easily have picked any
of the remaining 11 cuts as they all fall within the top notch melodic rock
category.The high velocity opener 'I'm On Fire', pop-rocker 'Voodoo Queen' &
sing-a-long 'One Riff' are all prime examples of that.
Jean Beauvoir has always suffered a bit from his history with punk-band The
Plasmatics but I advise you to put any doubts about the man aside and give this
album the ear test. You won't be disappointed.
Honesty however obliges me to say that no matter how a great a band in its
genre, Voodoo X pale when compared to the stuff Beauvoir released later in his
career.
By the way, this package comes with 2 bonus tracks, by the way. Now off you go!
