Release Notes:
--------
Miracle MileÆs latest is a ôBest Ofö that is never less than excellent and in
general sublime. It includes tracks from all their studio albums, with a slight
bias towards later work, and every single one is a gem. Some few are not quite
flawless but the overwhelming majority are of the first water. Marcus Cliffe and
Trevor Jones offer lush, intelligent and literate pop that is almost too perfect
to exist. The hopes and fears of ôYuriÆs Dreamö, the intensity of passion in
ôSunburst Finishö, the poignancy of ôThe Dust Will Shape Your Sinsö and one of
the few good uses of nostalgia ever recorded that is ôPaper Planes and
Ponytailsö all envelop the listener in a gorgeous swoon of perfection.

ôSunburst Finishö in fact encapsulates their appeal in a single couplet. ôA
sunburst finish, with a tone that could tear you apart /thereÆs not a chord I
wouldnÆt diminish to capture your heartö. A perfect piece of imagery thatÆs a
million miles from moon/June but is nonetheless as pure a statement of love as
youÆre likely to hear anywhere.

The one question about this album is perhaps at whom itÆs aimed. Compilations
tend to be tasters for a potential new audience, hits with a new track or two to
lure existing fans or career-to-date summaries that mark a critical staging post
in a bandÆs development and this one doesnÆt fit in any of these categories.
Cliffe and Jones could paper the walls of a decent sized mansion with four and
five star reviews but their acclaim is in inverse proportion to their sales and
seven albums in that seems unlikely to change now. Similarly, although their
sound has evolved over time, becoming lusher and more sophisticated, ôWalking
John Wayneö, the earliest track featured, could sit easily next to ôPapillon"
from their last album ôLimbo.ö

All thatÆs really just marketing stuff though. The word ôperfectö has been used
a lot in this review and thatÆs really all you need to know. Miracle Mile make
perfect music. End of.
