: MEDIUM 21's initial incarnation was as a three-piece in :
: early 1999. With John Clough (vocals, guitars), Andrew :
: Kent (drums,vocals) and Paul Thornton (bass) the band :
: dipped into their savings and spent their first year :
: touring the US - a good way to have a holiday too. On :
: their return they played Manchester's In The City, :
: found a manager and brought in new member Craig Brown :
: (guitars, keyboards,vocals). :

: Their first release, 'In Awe Of Agriculture', in :
: November 2000 on the independent Outafocus label :
: garnered excellent press reviews and the follow-up, :
: their highly- collectable 'Riots On The Tyres EP', :
: earned them an XFM session and an Evening Session with :
: Steve Lamacq. :
: :
: As they progressed, MEDIUM 21 started earning a :
: reputation for combining American influences such as :
: Mercury Rev, The Flaming Lips and The Lemonheads with a :
: quirky indefinable English indie-pop sensibility. Their :
: warm melodies and mellow harmonies mixed with an edgy :
: garage-like angularity somehow worked. Live, the band :
: had charisma and excitement - songwriter John Clough is :
: a presence to behold. With his Nick Cave meets Jack :
: White looks and wry humour, audiences immediately warm :
: to this animated frontman. :
: :
: With several tours under their belt - The Cooper Temple :
: Clause among others - the band's confidence grew and :
: was duly noted by Simon Williams of fierce panda :
: records. Simon signed the band for a one-off EP, 'Plans :
: Are Not Enough', which again was lauded in the press :
: and was played on alternative radio. More touring with :
: the Delgados and Ed Harcourt followed, winning over new :
: fans along the way. :

: When Simon created his new label 'Temptation' with a :
: view to develop bands' long-term careers rather than :
: the one-offs of fierce panda, MEDIUM 21 were the first :
: band on his list. In January 20002 the band started :
: recording their debut album 'Killings From The Dial'. :
: Recorded at the Granary in Kent and mixed at Bath :
: Moles, the album is produced by Tim Rowkins and is to :
: be released on March 10th, 2003. :

: Meanwhile MEDIUM 21 have aleady released their debut EP :
: for Temptation, the wonderfully deranged 'Acting Like A :
: Mirror' and have more tours under their belt after :
: supporting the likes of Brendan Benson, Easyworld and :
: Death Cab For Cutie. In fact, MEDIUM 21 have much :
: respect from their peers - The Cooper Temple Clause are :
: present (tours allowing) at every London show and :
: Brendan Benson recently included them on his NME 'Burn :
: It' compilation. :

: The band have just confirmed more live dates - a :
: fifteen date co-headline tour with label mates, the :
: Rain Band. Watch out for the release of their new :
: single, 'Daybreak Versus Pride' on Temptation on :
: February 24th. :
