"Besides from following a very personal concept of soundcolour in my
compositions since 1990, I am working with electronic music in a
communicative way. I am trying to create a dynamic dialogue between
very different elements: source material, technical approach, visual
media; and of course by personal artistic collaboration, working with
musicians on projects such as "Porter Ricks" (with Andy Mellwig) and
"Kontakt der Jⁿnglinge" (with Asmus Tietchens). The sources for
ZYKLOP were software-generated sound, heavily processed noises from
the mechanics of a film projector , deliberately unprocessed
field recordings, my voice, and the sound of dust (read by the
optical sound-pickup of 16 mm film projector). I enjoy collaborating
with film/videoartists in the fields of live-performance and
installation. However, I never exposed electronic music as a
soundtrack to accompany images. Sound and image to me are truly
independent phenomena. Each deserves careful and unrestricted
development. ZYKLOP gives examples of soundworks that were in
dialogue during their presentation with images, but that remain
absolute and autonomous in their musical conception."
