Kirstine Sand is one of our upcoming young Danish
fiddleplayers. She plays traditional Danish music with lots of
nerve, joy and energy. She has been playing the fiddle since
she was 6 years old and have been thought both classical and
traditional music. Since 2001 she has been studying at the
Carl Nielsen Academy of Music in Odense, where she has been
thought in amongst other things the special style of music
from the Isle of Fan° by Peter Uhrbrand. In 2005/06 she was an
exchange student at the University of Newcastle, UK where she
was thought by Catriona MacDonald.
She has on this CD gathers some great Danish musicians:

"It is always fascinating to be able to follow another human
being in her development, as she travels along the
ever-changing and mysterious paths of life. It is especially
interesting, a bit frightening and a big privilege, when you
as a teacher and mentor slowly but clearly realise and
acknowledge that talent, courage, creativity and openness as
well as discipline, ambition, will, sheer strength and a
devil-may-care attitude along with a lot of hard work,
"suddenly" is able to redefine the reality of human beings.
This has very much been the case for Kirstine during her years
at the Carl Nielsen Academy of Music in Odense, Denmark.
It has been a great pleasure following Kirstine Sand's
development from a slightly insecure and not very
self-conscious musician, over a brief stint at the Academy's
pedagogical line till today where she now and in the future
will function as a professional and artistically mature folk
musician - exploring and challenging.
This CD is very much a testimony to the great musical span and
capability that exists in Kirstine's universe of music, where
creativity and creation charmingly is combined with tradition
and cultural awareness.
