One day, Ludwig van Beethoven had a bad dream. In the dream he was
transported to a strange world where evil ruled with a steam-iron
fist. Ludwig was smothered by indefinably grotesque creatures who,
babbling, swearing and spewing, led him to a room whose walls were
smeared with the blood and entrails from a thousand classical
violinists. Reclined in a giant throne was an overweight preying
mantis, who stared through the unfortunate composer with his giant
insectoid eyes.
"Welcome to Hell", said the 4 ton mantis. "In the future, this is
what music will sound like." And laughing a heinous laugh, he
pressed play on the A-dat mounted in his forehead. A savage and yet
agreeable noise filled the space.
'Wow, this is dark shit', thought Ludwig. "What is this madness?"
he asked the insect overlord.
"This is the sound of your children screaming. This is the sound of
a scary machine from Brazil. This is the sound of AMON TOBIN".
Beethoven wringed his nineteenth century hands in delight as the
tongues in his ears licked the cacophony that raged around him like
a violent storm. He woke from the dream, ran to his piano and, that
night, composed at least three of his most popular and endearing
symphonies, while at the same time, cursing that this Tobin did not
exist in real life. Little did he know that two hundred years
later, the independent record label Ninja Tune would unleash the
Tobin virus on the world, a warped soundtrack to the chaos that
brewed in the utmosphere like a cup of tea made by Beelzebub.
