Under the scorching sun of the desert region of Baja California, in
the city of Mexicali in the northwest of MΘxico, the electronic
aesthetic of Ruben Alonso Tamayo is born: FAX : a graphic designer
and also guitarist of ethereal rock group Aural.
On the design side, a series of dreamy graphic emblems that show
the flow of colors and reason. As a guitarist, member of an
alternative movement to the more traditional school of rock in
MΘxico, joining strength with other optimists from the Baja region,
sending punches to the idea of shared beauty.
FAX arrives at a moment where electronic music in MΘxico goes
through a stage of doubtful quality. Defying conventionalisms, FAX
reverses the external effort of the most extreme tecno on
diminutive beats and spacious atmospheres. While his contemporaries
drown themselves in the exalting vice of a dull and unchallenging
tecno, FAX takes another direction, integrating everything that is
small in a proyect that is big in concept.
The resonance is complete when the contact is stablished with
impressions of receiving multicolor sound pulsations. Brief rhythms
are thrown at micro velocity. The nature of the diminutive taken to
the context of the dance floor, where the first image you see takes
you to a universe of molecular perfection.
Melodic sub bass and light ambiances that liberate escape strange
gases.s
The rhythm is directed straight to the solar plexus, where the
smallest effort is concentrated in a mayor sound.
FAX has caused expectation during his recent incursions in
electronic music, last year his first track, A.N.I.R.A.K., closed
"La tejedora de nubes" the compilation from the indie Mexican label
Nimboestatic.
His first EP, released as a demo in March of 2001, grabbed the
attention of German DJ Triple R, who was visiting Mexico in those
days and immediately signed FAX to his TRAUM imprint. FAX also did
an electronic remix for rock group Nona Delichas on their last
album.s
At the moment FAX finds himself collaborating, via long distance,
with electronic activists ULTRARED, a collective of LA artists who
have released music on Mille Plateaux and FAT CAT. The future sees
FAX releasing a 12" vinyl for TRAUM as well as his debut CD on
STATIC, the Mexican label dedicated to experimental electronics.
