     Lounge is the ultimate crossover in music. It's the aural area where
     jazz and electronics meet, make love, and have lots of wonderful
     babies. Since lounge is so gracefully eclectic - a mixture of acoustic
     instruments and the latest studio wizardry, fusing characteristics of
     (almost) any style that happens to fit the moment - it is hard to
     pinpoint its origin. Duke Ellington's big band swing, Xavier Cugat's
     ballroom boogie, Louis Prima's Vegas glitz, Paul Weston's orcgestrated
     mood music, Martin Denny's Hawai-inspired exotica, Miles Davis' jazz-
     tinged take on Spanish music - they've all contributed to the bedrock
     of lounge, creating feel good music for releaxed swingers.

     The current wave of interest in groove-based chill tunes attracts a
     ballooning pack of lounge lizards just as varied and colorful as the
     ingredients that constitute their musical menu. Jazzheads groove
     alongside aficionados of black urban music, while b-boys and techno
     buffs join the fray with breakbeat-driven gusto. What brings them
     together is a common love for the evocative power of lounge, the
     score to the ramblings of their imagination.

     This first volume in a projected series offers the best from a wide
     array of artists: the jazz-based jams of St. Germain from France,
     breakbeats by UK producer LTJ Bukem, dub-infected downtempo from
     Washington's Thiervery Corporation, Roni Size decontructed by
     Vienna's remixers extraordinaire Kruder & Dorfmeister, plus a 
     hefty contribution from Benelux style leaders Sven van Hees, Monte
     La Rue, Project 2000 and Alex Cortiz.

     'Lounge, The Best Of, Vol. 1' is the debut release of the
     Amsterdam-based Vegaz Records, examplifying the growing importance
     of the Lowlands as a haven for downtempo music. This collection
     is weird but beautiful. Like life. Like lounge.
