at last, the afronaught album drops - and i think it has been
worth the wait! what excites me most about this album are the
fusion of sounds, using elements of black music and yet sounding
     totally fresh.

"our respective sounds just display what has influenced us all,"
states orin. "the music weÆve grown up and listened to, the music
weÆve heard in clubs. We love it all just as much and we really
feel that history of music. When you go back 20 or 30 years, the
music was all different tempos and styles. one week it was a
ballad, the next week was always d'n'b tempo, northern soul stuff.
you donÆt have to follow conventional patterns. at the end of the
day these experiments are all soul music."

afronaught aka orin walters is part of the prolific bugz in the
attic collective made up of orin, paul seiji, kaidi tatham, daz
benjamin, alex phountzi and scott clifford as well as new recruits
g-force, mark de clive lowe and matt lord.

under a dizzying myriad of monikers, the crew have consistently
churned out high quality, forward-looking tunes under individual
or collaborative aliases such as neon phusion (alex and kaidi),
opaque (paul), afronaught(orin), bb boogie (daz and cliff), misa
negra (daz, kaidi and orin), everyday people (orin and kaidi),
psyan (seiji and cliff) urban soul collective (paul, orin and kaidi
     - watch out for the new album!) and soul tuition (orin, cliff and
     kaidi).

"right from the start we knew that collectively we could make some
very soulful music,"continues orin. "we were inspired to be the
next sort of motown. there were lots of singers and musicians at
the time who used to come down and hang out and it was such a good
vibe in this big old house in the middle of richmond. people just
used to come and weÆd make tracks.we realised that we could take it
further and push some real talent."

between them, the group possess a variety of skills. alex plays
guitar, paul is a cellist, kaidi a multi-instrumentalist and mark
de clive lowe studied keyboards back in his native new zealand. all
the others have 'nuff dj and studio experience and this combination
makes for a highly original take on dance music that incorporates
soul, jazz, afro-jazz, latin vibes, hip hop, techno, whatever.

among the labels theyÆve recorded for are si projects, sole music,
laws of motion, main squeeze, 2000 black, reinforced, ubiquity,
yellow as well as providing remixes for sublime, ubiquity and
versatile. asserts orin: "we set up the label last year, but this
year weÆre channelling all our energies into putting our stuff into
this label. our skills have got better so we can now do a more
diverse range of things. the musical direction was always mucking
around but in the same direction, which is twisting up all different
styles of dance music with a jazzy soulful side and using beats and
technology. it would be boring to just do that all the time and as
more production happens we just grow even more diverse."

please remember to support this music !!
