bah samba have just completed their self titled debut album
'bah samba!' on which 'tired little one' is featured as an
acoustic version.
penned by alice this is atypical blue eyed soul sound with a
latin twist that bah samba have championed over the years.
the standard is consistent but in terms of style it's a bit
of a curve ball for the band. curve ball it might be but
it's already being broken by the likes of new york's timmy
regisford (shelter), joe claussell (body and soul) and uk
players like phil asher and patricj forge.
the main mix is a deceptively complex affair built on the
drums and percussion by winston clifford (sun ra) and bosco
d'oliviera (terry callier), locking down the bass of ed myer
(turin brakes) into a hypnotic sound that is surrounded by
cello, 1st violin and viola. the excellent mark ralph on
electric guitar and pedro martins (mr bongo) on pandeiro and
additional percussion both add to the brew. leaving alice to
lead from the front with a characteristically powerful
performance of a fantastic song. 'nascer' is julian bendall
(keyboards) and bosco getting eerie with a sinister
spiritual feel. flip for the radio edit, and the beautiful
piano and vocal only mix that was recorded in one take with
alice and julian displaying their musical prowess.
a taste of things to come from one of the scenes most
consistent bands. for more info on bah samba and the
forthcoming estereo compilation check the website. also look
out for the bah samba remix of muro (japanese rapper) coming
soon on the next bossa tres jazz compilation (yellow).
