Release Notes:

With a voice straight out of the 60s folk revival Mary Hampton
- even by name - would have fitted in with a whole host of
classic fantasy folk singers.

The refrain æyou are loved because you are youngÆ in the
opening track sets out the scene for the rest of the album and
thereÆs a feel the show Hampton puts on is for an innocent
whoÆs concept of reality hasnÆt yet been tempered and tamped
down by adult cynicism. The tales she sings have all the
horror of an original Grimm tale - all æglass-eyed dollsÆ,
eels that scream before they are skinned, thumbs tearing on
the sharpest thorns and stuffed dogs - and her bizarre flights
of fancy are the dreams of children, far more unsettling for
an adult.

If youÆre thinking this all sounds a little fragmented and out
there, for the most part it is but itÆs a sound well grounded
in some classic folk singers gone by. ThereÆs something of
Nick Drake in the title track on My motherÆs children and the
Brighton based singerÆs otherworldly vocals, sit somewhere in
between Joni Mitchell and Sandy Deny.

ItÆs avant garde, trancy and beguiling fantasy folk with an
unsettling twist evoking EliotÆs Wasteland in itÆs beautiful
bleakness.
