                          Combining elements of soul, funk, gospel, and jazz, Songs in the Key of
                          Life makes a bold musical statement on the chaos and social injustices
                          of modern times, all the while losing none of its pop-music appeal.
                          Such tracks as "Black Man" (which points out the ironies of racism
                          in America) and "Love's in Need of Love Today" (which takes on the 
                          dominance of anger and hate in society) drive home their messages 
                          with catchy refrains and equally clever keyboard hooks. Like many of
                          the tracks on Songs, a highly danceable bass line infuses the former,
                          while the latter rides on gentle keyboard riffs and a melody that calls
                          to mind Wonder's 1980s' hit "I Just Called to Say I Love You."
