Peggy J. Latkovich about Cobra Style & Family Man In Dub :
These two new releases from Bob MarleyÆs bass
player/arranger feature previously unreleased material from
BarrettÆs oeuvre. (Familyman in Dub is the dub companion to
Cobra Style.) Barrett lays down fat, laid-back grooves with
a minimum of sampling. Percussion and bass rule the day.
While MarleyÆs ghost is definitely in the house, the
Familyman for the most part eschews MarleyÆs
Rasta-spirituality-cum-political-commentary in favor of love
songs and instrumentals. Cobra Style includes Distant Drums,
which features the original Wailers (Marley, Bunny Wailer,
and Peter Tosh), as well as several disco mixes of
previously recorded Barrett material. Both are collectorÆs
items for the reggae completist.
