▓████▓▌ Inspired by a trip to Paris in late 1957, Erroll ▓▌
▓████▓▌ Garner entered the studio in the spring of 1958 to ▓▌
▓████▓▌ create his own impressions of the city. With his ▓▌
▓████▓▌ regular rhythm section of bassist Eddie Calhoun and ▓▌
▓████▓▌ drummer Kelly Martin, Garner played familiar ▓▌
▓████▓▌ favorites such as Edith Piaf's "La Vie en Rose" and ▓▌
▓████▓▌ Jerome Kern's "The Last Time I Saw Paris" in his ▓▌
▓████▓▌ distinctive style (a steady left hand and wild ▓▌
▓████▓▌ improvisations with his right hand). Although most ▓▌
▓████▓▌ of his originals are enjoyable, none of them began ▓▌
▓████▓▌ to approach the success of "Misty," and it seems ▓▌
▓████▓▌ unlikely that any of them became a part of his ▓▌
▓████▓▌ regular repetoire. Garner also makes his debut on ▓▌
▓████▓▌ harpsichord on this release; although "Paris Blues" ▓▌
▓████▓▌ fails miserably, sounding something like Muzak, ▓▌
▓████▓▌ "When Paris Cries" fares somewhat better ù this ▓▌
▓████▓▌ somber ballad with a slightly bluesy tinge might ▓▌
▓████▓▌ have sounded even better played on the piano. This ▓▌
▓████▓▌ long out of print LP is not one of Erroll Garner's ▓▌
▓████▓▌ most essential recordings but, given the number ▓▌
▓████▓▌ pressed of most of his late-'50s Columbia albums, ▓▌
▓████▓▌ it shouldn't be extremely difficult to find ▓▌
