Labradford was formed in Richmond, Virginia in 1992 and consists of
Robert Donne, Carter Brown and Mark Nelson.
Mark Nelson is Pan American. This is the self-titled debut album.
Following this in 2000 was the excellent 360 Business/360 Bypass(-sb).
Splinters of whispers, chilly organs, faint hints of guitars,
space-dub bass and ratcheting electronic pings and blips recall early
Aphex Twin, but the spacewalking sound is warmer, richer and more
bewitching. Unlike Labradford, which at times can be a bit arch, Nelson
brings things down to the point at which the music is an enveloping
primordial ooze which lulls and pacifies. That's not to say it's boring
- far from it. In fact, Nelson's adeptly structured sonic landscapes
are lush, dense and intricate. Many of the tracks play on a similar
theme, which makes them flow into one another with a calming

thankfully the apple has not fallen far from the tree, with this first
known departure of Mark Nelson of Labradford, the artist takes the mood
and atmosphere we've come to love from his day job and creates what
would follow order a near perfect middle of the night album.
one of the first times hearing this album i was coming off mushrooms,
i remember laughing like a schoolgirl it was so good. buy it for
