Moodymann's fourth EP, The Dancer, finds the Detroit artist
practicing a rather minimal style of house music with a live feel.
For each of these two songs, he lays down a thick foundation of
sampled percussion with plenty of funk and enough variety in terms of
structuring to carry these songs for long over five minutes each.
"The Dancer" acts as the more minimal of the two, adding only an
old-school keyboard melody to the percussion, which he repeats
variations of for the majority of the song.
Similar in style, "Long Hot Sexy Nights" lays down Moodymann's
patented percussion with some live keyboard playing and the vocals
and sax of Norma Jean Bell.
Throughout the song, a subtle background melody loops through the
nine-plus minutes of this song, mirroring the melodic vocal chorus.
