The 23 year old music student Ricardo tobar from the seaside town of Vina Del
Mar in Chile is one of the upcoming stars at Border Community and is now
releasing his debut 12" with Traum! Tobar's a-side track "La Otra Playa" is an
explosive electronic grunge piece of music with lots of feedback and noises on
top of a wonderful melodic carpet. It is introspective music clouded with
melancholy and counteracts with sure brutal force but lets sun beams shine
through from time to time, in all creating a dramatic composition. here
electronica meets the pioneer days of techno in a wonderful unpretentious way.
"With You" on the flipside combines with an easiness euphoric rippling fuzzy
guitars sounds with techno beats. it evokes the feeling of the indie days from
the mid 90ies when commercialisation was beginning to approach the scene in a
big way. "Escalera A Central" is by far the most "minimal" track on Tobar's
record. More stripped down and focussed on sounds that act on a smaller scale in
relation to the rhythm. A psychedelic track, changing direction, throwing itself
from one corner to the other and still staying a dj tool.
