Horace Andy was one of the first and best of the early
reggae singers with major hits like "Skylarking" (which he
did for Studio One) and "Money is the root of all evil" for
producer Bunny "Striker" Lee. Wether recording in Kingston
JA or in other places of this world, he kept his sleepy
choirboy delivery and conscious roots intact as is showcased
on this album he recorded in 1984 for New York based Lloyd
"Bullwackie" Barnes, now as a re-release available on
compact disc. On this 46 minutes lasting heavyweight,
echo-laden, weird and most of all mindblowing experience,
Horace Andy's languid concentrated delivery is meticulous
and subversive. His voice lulls you, slowly knocking the
pinions from beneath you one by one until you come gently to
rest on his own gliding terms. Different but certainly
essential stuff from "Sleepy" !

Mr Horace Andy has voiced over a fair few tracks in his time
On 'Dancehall Style' his pleading staccato phrasing was a
gift in the hands of Mr Lloyd 'Bullwackie' Barnes and Horace
even weighed in with some of the bass and guitar work.
Vocally Horace lets rip with fresh stripped down versions of
'Cuss Cuss' and 'Money' as well as the unifying themes of
'Stop The Fuss' and 'Lets Live In Love'. His later
collaboration with Massive Attack begins here with the
original version of 'Spying Glass'. It's swirling organ
sounds introduces Horaces lament toward inner-city living.
If you haven't got this record yet it is about time that you
asked yourself why not. Crucial.

One of my favorite reggae records: early eighties reggae at
its best. The singing is dope as always from Horace, but the
production really takes you somewhere else. Heavy, heavy
dubs from Wackie's sound run the entire album. Wackie's
production was based out of New York and was really at it's
height during this time, producing some excellent sides for
such stars as Horace and Wayne Jarret.

I'm proud to present these fantastics rare cuts from Horace
Andy for Wackies label.
Play loud and enjoy !
