Trojan Records reissues I.Roy's first album release
Presenting I.Roy for producer Augustus "Gussie" Clarke
(including some tunes he did for Pete Weston) and its
self-produced follow-up Hell And Sorrow on one CD. Both
albums were released in 1973, which was - measured by the
number of different producers (at least ten !) for whom
I.Roy worked - his top year. And indeed these two albums
feature I.Roy at his best. Dismissed by many as an uptown
U.Roy knockoff, I.Roy sounds very good on these tracks after
all these years. So, if you're tired of the modern deejay
sound and hanker for the roots of the style check this I.Roy
reissue. Strong stuff from the past !
