Jamaican Reggae legend : Little Roy began his illustrious
never-ending career in 68 at Studio 1. It was stalwart
Jackie Mittoo, who first recorded Roy's : "Cool IT" Two
years later Little Roy was singing for Prince Buster, the
following year he began recording for Matador. A mutually
successful relationship beginning with : " Bongo Nyah" which
stormed into the charts at n░ 1.
A tremendous achievement for a youth still going to school.
"Bongo Nyah" was just the tip of the iceberg in a string of
popular hits.
Due to exploitation, in '72 Little Roy took charge of his
own carer by founding the inspirational label : Tafri. Now
able to rule his own musical destiny, Little Roy recorded
the haunting and timeless Prophecy followed by the
unforgettable worldwide classic " Tribal War".
Between 75 and 79 musical genius Little Roy rested from
recording to feature in the 12 tribes of Israel Funcions. He
resurfvaced in 1980 with songs like Longtime Rocksteady, Way
down in Babylon and the album Columbus Ship.
After yet another nine year break of the business he
reappeared in 89 with 2 albums : " Live on" and " Little
Roy" prophecy.
A critically acclaimed gifted singer and songwriter, Little
Roy was then inspired to compile his classics for Pressure
Sounds and the Album" Tafari Earth uprising" was born and
went into the studio with Adrian Sherwood to record the
modern "Long-time" for On U Sound. These day he's recording
for Lion Roots which yielded the fine album : "More from a
little"

At last, after years of relative obscurity someone has had
the sense to drag this fine roots singer back into a studio.
Earl Lowe (Little Roy) has one of the most moving voices to
ever ride a rootical rhythm and producer Adrian Sherwood has
gone the extra mile to craft music beds worthy of it,
calling in UK reggae dons like Crucial Tony, Mafia and
Fluxy, Skip McDonald, and BB Seaton to solidly anchor Roy's
soaring tenor to the earth. When producing vocal tracks as
opposed to his trademark elephantine dubs, Sherwood shows
himself capable of a subtlety and soulfulness I thought he'd
long since lost, providing perfectly judged settings for
Roy's rousing songs of praise. Tunes like "New Song,"
"Frankenstein," and "Righteous Man" are easily the best
contemporary roots tracks I've heard in the last few years,
fiercely political without being strident, militant but
compassionate, optimistic in the face of great adversity.
Splendidly sung and deeply felt.
